      Yes, it is compulsory to insure your car against at least third party liabilities as per the Motor Vehicles Tariff, 2002. It means a car owner has to own at least a third party insurance cover while driving a car otherwise he or she might be imposed with a fine of Rs. 2,000 and/or imprisonment of up to 3 months.

      Yes, Universal Sompo does arrange for a representative in a court of law in case of death of a third party.

      To get coverage for the legal liabilities of death or physical injury of a paid driver you need to opt for a paid driver add-on cover against an extra premium.

    • Is it compulsory to have a third party policy?

      Yes, as the Indian Motor Tariff it is mandatory for every car owner to purchase at least a third party liability only policy for his/her car.

    Zero Depreciation

    • Can I choose the claim in which I want to use the zero depreciation cover?

      Yes, you can choose the claim in which you want to avail the benefit of the zero depreciation cover.

    • What is the premium of the zero depreciation add-on cover?

      The premium for the zero depreciation add-on cover is not fixed as it depends on certain factors like the age, model and IDV, etc of your vehicle.

    • How much will I have to bear during a claim settlement?

      You will only be required to pay the necessary deductibles and the liabilities on your part.

    • My car is 7 years old, is there any way I can avail a Zero-depreciation cover?

      Yes, however, the zero depreciation add-on benefits will be available to you only on a partial basis if your car in more than 5 years old. You will receive zero depreciation benefits only for Tyres/Tubes/Battery/Air bags/Fibre glass parts of the vehicle that are above 5 years of age and not above 7 years.

    Renewal

    • Can I use mobile payments app like PayTM to renew my policies?

      Yes, you can. Universal Sompo has recently announced they have activated Paytm platform for their Motor and Health insurance policy renewals.

    • When can I use the online method for Universal Sompo policy renewals?

      Policyholders can renew their policy online only if their existing policy expiry date is within 45 days from the current date.

    • What should I do if I missed my renewal date for my policy tenure?

      You can still renew your policy within 90 days of the last renewal date. In such a case, you will be required to get an inspection of your car done by the insurer.

    Claim

    • What information and documents are required at the time of claim intimation?

      The following details are required at the time of claim intimation: Your policy number Contact numbers Name of Insured policyholder Location of the accident Date and time of the accident A brief description of how the accident occurred. An estimate of the losses Place & contact details of the insured person (in case person intimating the claim is other than the policyholder)

    • What is the amount I need to pay during a claim settlement?

      Your liabilities at the time of claim settlement depend on the type of policy and add-ons purchased. However, irrespective of that you remain liable to pay for deductibles - compulsory and voluntary (if opted for at the time of purchasing the policy).

    • Can I track my Universal Sompo Claim?

      Yes, Universal Sompo allows policyholders to track their claim process. Visit the official website, scroll down on the homepage and select ‘Track Claims’ under the ‘claims’ heading. A new page with a short form will appear on the screen. Enter your Name, contact type, email id, phone number, and select the product (type of your policy) and then click on ‘Submit’. You will be able to access your claim status.

    Comprehensive

    • I have lost the insurance policy, is it possible to get a duplicate one?

      Yes, you can get a duplicate policy document in case you lose the original copy. To get a duplicate copy of your insurance policy document, visit your nearest Universal Sompo branch, with a written request and pay a nominal fee.

    • What are the factors that determine the own-damage (OD) premium of a comprehensive car insurance policy?

      Following are the factors help determine the own damage premium in comprehensive car insurance: Insured Declared Value or IDV Cubic Capacity (cc) of the car RTO of registration Age of the car Voluntary deductible, (if opted) NCB

    • Will I be able to get a personal accident cover if my vehicle is registered in someone else’s name?

      Unfortunately, you cannot get a personal accident cover in such a case. In order to avail the personal accident cover for your car insurance, your car must be registered in your name. However, personal accident cover for other occupants can be purchased against additional premiums.
