    About Star Health Insurance

Star Health and Allied Insurance began its operations in 2006. It is India’s first standalone health insurance provider and offers a wide range of affordable health insurance products for individuals, families, and corporations. Since its establishment, Star Health has immensely grown its operations, with 830 branches across the country.

Star Health Insurance plans cover policyholders' medical check-ups, AYUSH systems of medicines, critical illnesses, and hospitalization expenses. Furthermore, the policyholders of Star Health are also eligible for coronavirus coverage.

    Star Health Insurance Premium Calculation

A premium is an amount paid by policyholders to the insurer in exchange for health insurance coverage. The Star Health Insurance premium amount is determined on the basis of several factors.

    • Health History: Your health history is one of the elements that affect the premium amount of your Star Health Insurance plan. If you have any pre-existing medical conditions, you will have to pay a higher premium. This is because in such cases, the insurance company faces higher chances of obligating a claim in comparison to policyholders who are fit and fine.
    • Number of Members Covered: The premium amount for the Star Health policy would be less if you bought an individual health insurance plan. However, if you choose to add your other family members as floaters, you will have to pay a higher premium as you require more coverage.
    • Age: As you age, you become more prone to diseases and hence have greater chances of making claims under the health insurance plans offered by Star Health. Therefore, you will have to pay higher premiums if you buy plans in your old age as compared to your young age.
    • Sum Insured: You receive a larger coverage when you choose the higher sum assured Star Health Policy. As a result, you may have to pay a higher premium against your plan.
    • Lifestyle: Unhealthy lifestyle habits like smoking, drinking, and others put an individual at great risk of getting diseases, resulting in higher chances of making claims. Therefore, you may have to pay a higher premium against your Star Health Insurance.

    Star Health Insurance Policy Details

The Star Health Policy covers you against numerous diseases and illnesses. Here’s a list of the top 5 plans offered by Star Health.

    • Star Family Health Optima Policy: It is a family floater health insurance plan that provides coverage for the entire family under a single sum insured. The policy covers expenses related to air ambulances, pre-hospitalization, post-hospitalization, and other costs. The policyholders can choose the sum assured, which ranges from Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 25 lakhs depending on their needs.
    • Star Comprehensive Health Insurance Policy: It provides coverage for individuals aged between 3 months and 65 years. The plan is available without any sub-limit or capping. Furthermore, it covers expenses incurred due to medical consultation, domiciliary hospitalization expenses, daycare treatment, and more.
    • Star Medi Classic Insurance Policy: Medi Classic Insurance Policy is an individual health insurance policy that protects you from hospitalization costs incurred due to any illness, sickness, disease, or accident. You can be covered under this policy if you are aged between 5 months and 65 years. The plan offers several coverage features, including daycare treatments, health check-ups, non-allopathic treatments, in-patient hospitalization coverage, and ambulance charges.
    • Star Senior Citizens Red Carpet Health Insurance Policy: Star Health has designed this policy to cater to the unique needs of senior citizens. The policy offers a lifelong renewability feature and can be purchased either on an individual or floater basis. The age of the policyholder should range between 60 and 75 years. Some expenses covered under this Star Health policy include pre-hospitalization, post-hospitalization, health check-ups, and others.
    • Young Star Insurance Policy: Policyholders can purchase this plan either on an individual or family floater basis. The minimum sum assured for this plan is Rs. 3 lakh, and the maximum is Rs. 1 crore. The Young Star Insurance Policy provides coverage for expenses incurred due to in-patient hospitalization, road ambulance, pre-hospitalization, and others.

What Is A Health Insurance Top-up Plan and Why Should I Buy It?

A health insurance top-up plan provides additional coverage to policyholders on their existing plan. These plans pay for medical expenditures incurred as a result of a single illness that exceeds the sum insured in your existing policy. Thus, a top-up health insurance plan helps you increase coverage at a reasonable premium.

Star Health Insurance offers the Star Super Surplus Insurance Policy as a top-up plan that you can purchase on an individual or floater basis for extended coverage of your base health insurance policy. All daycare procedures, organ donation expenses, pre-hospitalization and post-hospitalization expenses, and air ambulance expenses are covered under this plan.

Here’s a rundown on why you should purchase a Star Health Policy with a top-up feature.

    • Extended Coverage: Top-up health insurance plans provide wide coverage to policyholders. During treatment, if the treatment cost exceeds the sum assured limit, you can top-up your Star Health Insurance plan.
    • Affordable Premiums: Another reason to buy a Star Health Top-up Policy is that you have to pay affordable premiums. However, if you purchase a health insurance policy, you may have to pay a higher premium for coverage.
    • Financial Stability: During medical emergencies, you won’t have to worry about paying treatment expenses from your own pocket, even if your medical costs exceed the sum assured limit. All you need to do is buy the Star Health Top-up Insurance Plan.
    • Tax Benefits: Star Health Insurance policyholders are eligible for a tax exemption on a premium paid under Section 80D of the Income Tax Act.
