Reasons to Convert Your Car to CNG

CNG has increasingly become more popular over the years, and is becoming a more and more viable alternative to petrol and diesel, especially due to their rising prices. There are many reasons why a CNG car is better for car owners. Many are hesitant about switching to CNG cars due to the fear of a dearth of supply stations, and concerns about the performance of the car.

However, these challenges are now being met.

Why is a CNG Car Better in India?

The increasing presence of fuel pumps in the country alongside the benefits of switching to CNG cars make it clear that switching to CNG is the better alternative.

1. Economic Advantage

CNG as a fuel is cheaper than the alternatives diesel and petrol, the prices of which have been steadily rising. However, petrol can be used in emergency situations if a CNG station is unavailable. There would still be an overall saving in expenditure with a CNG vehicle. Not only is the fuel price more economical, the vehicle itself is cheaper compared to hybrid and electric vehicles.

A CNG vehicle’s engine also has a longer lifespan, ensuring longer gaps periods between maintenance and servicing, also saving expenditure. This is due to the fact that CNG leaves minimal residue on the tubes and pipes of the car, due to its lack of sulfur, particulate matter, or residual heavy metals. It is considered one of the cleanest fuels in India for this reason.

2. Environmental Benefits

It is well known that vehicular emissions are extremely dangerous for the environment, and that breathing in polluted air causes a plethora of respiratory diseases from bronchitis to asthma. Compared to diesel or petrol, CNG is extremely beneficial for the environment.

CNG’s combustion process is much more environmentally beneficial, and its usage cuts down hugely on the burning of Nitrogen Oxide and particulate matter which is harmful for the environment due to its contribution to air pollution. CNG also reduces emissions of Carbon Monoxide and other hydrocarbons, making it overall much more suited to the environment.

3. Increased Safety

CNG offers the unique advantage that unlike diesel and petrol which are in liquid form, it is a gas. This is advantageous from a safety perspective due to the fact that if there is a leak, it would not accumulate in close proximity to the car and would quickly disperse into the external environment rather than remaining concentrated in one place. This is advantageous because it greatly reduces the risk of a fire hazard.

Conclusion

With the advantages that come with using CNG vehicles, it is evident that it is a better alternative for car owners in India. The government has planned to invest Rs 70,000 crores in the setting up of fuelling stations across the country, meeting the challenge that creates the maximum apprehension in buyers. With the monetary savings and environmental benefits that come with CNG, along with the additional benefit of added safety for the passengers, it is clear that in India, CNG is the better alternative of fuel.
