Whether you like going on road trips or you are someone who stays within the city limits it is always best to be prepared for a mishap. It is in the nature of cars to be susceptible to uncertainties such as accidents or breakdowns. Car insurance can be helpful in this regard but there is also another way to remain prepared. Having an emergency kit in your car can make a world of difference in a moment of crisis. But What should you put in it? Read this article to find out.

What Should You Keep in the Car Emergency Kit?

The following things are crucial to have in your car in case of emergencies:

1. Tools and Basic Car Parts: It is important to have the basic tools and car parts in your car. This includes an inflated tyre, a wheel wrench and a tripod jack. Make sure to also have jumper cables, a standard multipurpose tool kit and duct tape.

2. Flashlight: In case you are ever stranded in a dark place and need to take a look at your car you will need a flashlight. Also make sure to have extra batteries for it. Reflective triangles, a colourful cloth and a reflective vest in case you need to go get help can also come handy.

3. First Aid Kit: This should include at least gauze, tape, bandages, antibiotic ointment, aspirin, gloves, scissors, tweezers, a cold compress, thermometer and hydrocortisone.

4. Fire Extinguisher: A fire near or in your car is a scary but real possibility. Having a fire extinguisher can make a world of difference in such scenarios.

5. Food and Water: Make sure to stock some bottles of water and non-perishable, high-energy food items in your car for emergencies, especially if you go on long road trips. Be careful to change out the bottles of water often. Non perishable food items include things such as nuts and dryfruits, protein bars and hard candy.

6. Cell Phone Charger: Staying connected and being able to call for help while on the road. Hence, make sure to have a dedicated charger for your car when on the road.

7. Umbrella, Blanket, Warm Clothing: This will depend on the climate you live in. However, having a blanket and a spare change of clothes and shoes in your car is never a bad idea. In case you live in colder climates having warm clothing at hand in case you are stranded somewhere can be extremely useful. Similarly, in places that have torrential rainfall having an umbrella and/or a raincoat in the car will be handy.

8. Emergency Contact Directory: Having the possible helpline numbers you may need when travelling, such as the police, fire department, family members and towing company phone numbers is important. It will be especially useful in places where your internet services are not as strong.
