Let’s explore the important set of documents to keep handy while asking for a claim or disbursal.

Car insurance helps you pay for medical expenses incurred due to road accidents that are not covered under health insurance. With appropriate coverage, you get immunity from negotiating with the third party to pay for the repairs of the damage incurred. However, you need to claim a disbursal to get the benefits from your car insurance policy. For that, a required set of important documents is necessary to produce at the time of making the claim.

List of Documents Required for Car Insurance Claim

There are 3 types of compensation from a car insurance policy which require their own set of documents for making a claim. The types of claims are - accident claim, third-party claim and car theft claim. Missing any one document from the mentioned sets can lead to an incomplete claim which does not fetch you any benefit unless that one document can be produced. Following are the documents listed for all three types of claims stated:

1. Accident Claim

The following document set needs to be produced at the time of accident disbursal of car insurance -

  • Claim form filled up and signed by you
  • Copy of the insurance policy
  • Copy of car registration certificate
  • Original driving license card
  • All the tax receipts
  • Copy of a filed FIR
  • Estimated bill for the required repairs
  • Original bills and payment receipts 

2. Third-party Claim

Car insurance covers the claims raised by third parties involved in accidents. The following set of documents is required to complete the procedure of disbursal in case of third-party claims -

  • Claim form filled up and signed by you
  • Copy of car registration certificate
  • Your Driving License Card
  • Copy of a filed FIR
  • Stamped company-registered original documents for the vehicle

3. Car Theft Claim

The following documents are extremely important along with other items which previously belonged to your car like duplicate keys, warranty cards, and manuals have to be produced at the time of claiming for theft disbursal -

  • Copy of Insurance policy document
  • Copy of the theft FIR
  • Theft declaration from Regional Transport Office
  • Theft claim forms of the insurance company filled up and stamped with revenue stamp
  • Original car registration book
  • Items belonging to the car like duplicate keys, Etc.
  • All the tax payment receipts
  • Letter of Subrogation
