Who is More Likely To Get Coronavirus Disease
Novel coronavirus (CoV) is a new strain of coronavirus. The disease caused by it is known as coronavirus disease (COVID-19). This new virus has severely impacted the world and spread fear and anxiety among people.
With this, one common question that you might also be seeking an answer to is ‘who is more prone to get the coronavirus disease?’
Let’s find the answer in this article.
Although, the diseases does not discriminate among its victims, but the following groups of people are more prone to get the contagious COVID-19:
Which age groups are most likely to die of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)? As per data given by the Chinese Centre for Disease Control, people above the age of 60 with weak immune systems are at a high risk of COVID-19. Many of them cannot combat the infection due to the weakened immune system. Symptoms of the COVID-19 in elderly people extend to pulmonary problems along with high fever. Corona infected elderly people are more prone to require a ventilator to survive and fight the disease.
People with Serious Chronic Conditions
Besides age, another factor which affects the possibility of anyone contracting the pandemic declared coronavirus disease is ‘how healthy they were before the outbreak of COVID-19.’
People with health conditions like diabetes, heart disease, chronic lung disease are more likely to be infected and have severe symptoms. This is because they have a weak immune system and they cannot fight the infection. This is because any sort of infection tends to make chronic diseases harder to control.
People Who Smoke
Another category of people who are more vulnerable to contract the coronavirus disease is the group of people who smoke. This is because consumption of tobacco degrades the condition of lungs. And the pandemic declared coronavirus affects the respiratory tracts after entering the human body.
Several medical reports have clarified that elderly people and those with chronic underlying diseases are more prone to the coronavirus infection. So, such persons must take extra precautions and follow the advisories issued by health experts. This can prevent them from getting the infection.
It is strongly recommended to take necessary precautions by maintaining social distance, wearing face masks when going out for any essentials, avoiding contact with people, and so on. At the moment, since we have not yet found a vaccine for this pandemic declared coronavirus, all we can do is take necessary precautions to keep everyone safe.
