1. Maintain Ideal Weight

Obesity and being overweight have various complications attached to them such as diabetes, high blood pressure, etc, which further raises the complications of getting a stroke. Although an ideal BMI is 25 or less, that might not be realistic to achieve. Therefore, consult your doctor to devise a personal weight loss strategy for yourself.

2. Exercise

Being less active physically can result in obesity or being overweight and can result in higher cholesterol, diabetes, high BP which can consequently result in a stroke. Nothing much is required on your part except for working out at least half an hour every day.

3. Limit Alcohol Intake

As per the studies, consuming too much alcohol can result in higher blood pressure and triglycerides. A man should consume no more than 2 drinks a day, while for a woman the number comes down to 1 drink in a day. However, in the event when an individual starts taking more than 2 drinks in a day, the risk of getting a stroke goes up sharply.

4. Lower Blood Pressure

Having high blood pressure can result in doubling the risk of getting a stroke in case it is not controlled on time. High BP is the greatest factor in contributing to the risk of getting a stroke in both men and women. Regularly monitoring the blood pressure, and if it gets elevated, treating it on time can help people in making a big difference in their health.

5. Diabetes Control

Uncontrolled and high blood sugar levels make a person more prone to have a stroke. In case, it is left unmanaged on time, diabetes can result in the deposit of fat or clots within the blood vessels. In case an individual is having diabetes, then they should regularly check their blood sugar level, take proper medications as said by the doctor and visit their doctor every few months in order to keep a check on their sugar levels.

Alongside following a healthy diet clubbed with regular exercising, quitting smoking is amongst the most significant lifestyle changes that can help you in reducing the risk of your stroke significantly.
