Self-inspection of your insurance renewal is a feature that allows you to check your vehicle when on the go using your smartphone. This feature is also known as "Self Video Inspection" for car insurance. In this case, you must record a video of the vehicle and send it to the insurance provider.

Car insurance is becoming easier to buy and renew daily. Technology has a significant role to play in this transformation, especially when it comes to car inspection. It was the only way to get car insurance, which caused the completion of lengthy forms and the submission of several papers. The procedure has now been made more straightforward and can be completed without requirement of a third party agent through your mobile.

Self-Inspection Process To Renew a Car Insurance Policy

When Is Car Inspection Required?

A car inspection is required in the following scenarios -

  • When you are renewing your car insurance after the policy expiry but within 90 days from the date of expiry (break-in period)
  • When you are switching from a third party car insurance to a comprehensive car insurance
  • When you are opting for standalone own-damage cover for the first time
  • When you are opting for zero depreciation car insurance for the first time.

What Is Car Insurance Renewal Self-Inspection?

Car insurance renewal inspection is a feature that allows you to use your mobile to inspect your vehicle. The Car Insurance Self Video Inspection is another name for it. You must record a car video or take required photos of your car and submit them to the insurance company. The insurance firm would not have to send representatives to inspect the vehicle in this manner. You will save time by easily updating your car insurance policy.

In the event of a break-in insurance companies inspect the vehicle. Since you can't drive your car during the break, the insurance company isn't compensated. If the policy is not extended after the 90-day period, you will have your No Claim Bonus aspect reset to zero.

Self-check video is easier than waiting for inspectors to come out and inspect the vehicle to renew the expired car insurance.

How Do I Check My Car Insurance Renewal By Myself?

Different insurance providers have different procedures for self-examination. Different insurers have different levels of complexity and simplicity. The approach depends on the insurer's technological capabilities. Here's a rundown of the typical procedure:

  • Application To Be Downloaded

To perform your inspection, you will need to download the insurer's software. This app may or may not be available for Android and iOS users.

  • Registering Information

After you've downloaded the compatible app to your mobile, you'll be asked to provide some basic details. Name, number, vehicle information, policy number, and so on are examples of details. Most of it is automatically filled in or traced from your phone registered number. It is therefore important to enter the same mobile number and data as defined during the purchasing process.

  • Video/Photos Capture

After you've covered the basics, you can continue to record a 360-degree video of your vehicle. Make sure you've covered all angles, particularly where there's been damage. If you've completed the video, press submit.

Factors You Must Keep In Mind After Completing The Self Inspection Policy

It is wise to keep the following in mind after completion of the self-inspection process -

  1. The insurer could ask you to repeat the self-inspection process if it is not up to the mark.
  2. The insurer can also reject your renewal application if it does not match the requirements.
  3. Technical issues.
  4. Get some acknowledgment from the insurance company once you have submitted the video of your vehicle
