Pollution of all sorts has become a major crisis all over the world. Most of the pollutants are harmful gases that are a result of incomplete combustion. A high percentage of these pollutants arise from vehicles. This article will provide you with ways that you can adopt to reduce pollution levels.

How To Reduce Car Pollution Level?

How To Reduce The Pollution Caused By Cars?

Cars have become a common sight on roads. Almost 8 out of every 10 people own a car. Travelling by car has ceased to be a luxury and has become a common practice. This has resulted in high pollution levels owing to the pollutants released by the cars. The following are steps that you can take to curb air pollution from your end -

  • Check Your Car For Emission Levels

In order to reduce the harmful emissions from cars, the government has set a standard percentage of carbon monoxide emission that is considered to be acceptable. You can check your car’s emission levels at your nearest petrol station. After checking your car’s emission levels, you will be provided with a certificate to confirm that your car’s emission levels are under control. This certificate is called the Pollution Under Control certificate (PUCC). This is not only made mandatory but has become a necessity.

  • Carpooling

On the urban side, it is very common to see people driving their cars alone to their workspaces or other destinations. The best way to reduce traffic, as well as air pollution, is by carpooling. It is nothing but joining other passengers who are going to the same location in a common car. This will reduce the number of cars on the road and hence decrease the traffic as well as the percentage of pollutants.

  • Use Public Transport

One main way of curbing the percentage of pollutants in the air is by reducing the source. By taking public transport, the number of cars on the road will decrease and so will the level of pollutants. Another advantage is that using public transport will save you fuel and the expenses that come along with travelling. Public transport is also way cheaper than driving a car.

  • Avoid Idling Your Car For Too Long

Idling is nothing but the act where you start your engine and allow it to run without giving acceleration. This action consumes a lot of fuel. Any combustion process releases toxins or pollutants into the air. The release of these pollutants will cause air pollution. If you are stuck at a long signal, it is advised to turn off your engine. This will not only save your fuel and increase the efficiency of your car, but it will also help you reduce air pollution caused by your car.

  • Use Cleaner Fuels

The combustion process that takes place inside the engine will be smoother if you provide the fuel system with cleaner and more consistent fuel. Providing consistent fuel will pave the way to a complete combustion process thus reducing the emission levels of your car.

  • Change The Oil And Oil Filter Regularly

Your engine oil and oil filter are some of the main things that ensure the smooth running of your car engine. The oil acts as a lubricant which helps the engine parts to move without much friction thus helps to perform effectively. Over time, your oil and the oil filter may collect a lot of dust which will settle in the engine parts. This will also result in the malfunctioning of the engine. Keeping these clean will help you maintain an efficient engine. Thus, reducing pollution.

Take Away

Reducing the pollution caused by a car is something that every citizen should do. Following the above-mentioned steps will make you a responsible and law-abiding citizen. Reducing the pollution caused by your car is the little you can contribute to reducing pollution globally. Make sure that you take measures to curb pollution and drive safely.
