Car Safety Checklist for Road Trip

For a hassle-free experience, in addition to having your car serviced, you must follow a certain checklist as given below

  1. Check the Battery: Check the expiry date of your car's batteries. If it's been more than 3 years, go for a replacement. Besides, make sure that the battery's electrical charging mechanism is working properly. The battery life of a vehicle can be severely damaged by both overcharging and undercharging. Often, it may be attributable to a corroding or failing battery if the starter sounds sluggish in the automobile.
  2. Check the Tyres: Two aspects need to be tested when testing the tyres - the friction and the tread of the tyres. Ensure that the tires are not over or under-inflated as it comes to the air pressure issue in the tyre, as this will lead to some complications such as premature wear, bumpy trip, overheating, and a blowout can be the worst.
  3. Fill Up the Tank: Ensure that the vehicle has enough fuel oil before preparing for a road trip. With the aid of a dipstick, the amount of engine oil can be measured easily. Fill the tank correctly before embarking on your trip, so that your road trip is free of hassles.
  4. Check the Level of Other Fluids: To prevent dust from entering a car engine's interior, air filters are mounted inside the vehicle. They also maintain the car's interior air quality. However, it gets clogged after hitting the peak, eventually deteriorating the engine performance, fuel state, and quality of the internal air. There is a requirement for air filters to be replaced after 12000 miles.
  5. Check Wipers and Lights: During driving, particularly late and early hours, the state of lights and wipers must ensure proper visibility. If it leaves stains, replace the old/worn-out wiper blades such that you can see better when there is precipitation, fog, rainfall, etc. Also, examine the accessories for interiors and exteriors lighting and adjust them if there is any need.
  6. Adjust Steering and Suspension: Adjust the loose steering, worn-out mounts or bushing, faulty shocks, and car bouncing/swaying, as these can make the road trip a bumpy ride.
  7. Check Exhaust System: Reduced strength, poor fuel quality, and insufficient ventilation of toxic gases emitted by the engine; a defective exhaust system will cause problems in the journey. If the car is over five years old, consider servicing the exhaust system.
  8. Check HVAC: Heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) make room for the right cooling system, and this is important for comfort in the interior. The objective is, based on the inputs of operators and electronic sensors, to disinfect, cool, heat, dehumidify, and ventilate the air coming from the cabin.
  9. Check Braking System: The key safety aspect of your vehicle is the braking mechanism. So, before you plan a road trip, check the brake conditions. Squeaking, scratching, wheel shaking, steering, and sponginess of the brake pedals are the early warning indicators of a weak brake. This demands that the accessories, such as brake pads, drums, hoses, brake fluids, and rotors, be tested.
