About HDFC ERGO General Arogya Sanjeevani Policy Health Insurance

Arogya Sanjeevani Policy offered by HDFC Ergo General Insurance is a recently launched indemnity-based health insurance policy that covers you and your family against unforeseen medical expenses. Developed by IRDAI, the plan provides basic health cover to all Indians and even NRIs. The sum insured under the policy is as low as Rs. 1 Lakh and can go up to a maximum of Rs. 5 Lakh. The policy can be purchased on an individual or family floater basis. Depending on the requirements, you can cover self, your spouse, kids, parents, and parents-in-law under a single policy. Anyone who is aged between 3 months and 65 years can take advantage of this policy. Since there is a 5% of co-payment applicable to all admissible claims, the premiums for this policy are kept low. 

The Arogya Sanjeevani Policy offered by HDFC Ergo General Insurance provides many benefits to the policyholders. Some of them are the cover for pre and post hospitalisation expenses, road ambulance, cataract treatment, AYUSH treatment, day care procedures in-patient hospitalisation and modern treatment like Deep Brain Stimulation, Robotic Surgeries, Oral Chemotherapy, Balloon Sinuplasty, Intra Vitreal Injections. Tax benefits under Section 80D of the Income Tax Act are also available.

  • Coverage for daycare procedures, up to the sum insured
  • Expenses incurred on treatment of cataract subject to the sub limits
  • Ayurveda, Unani, Sidha and Homeopathy treatment as specified in the policy
  • Dental treatment & plastic surgery due to a disease or injury
  • Pre-hospitalisation & post-hospitalisation expenses for up to 30 and 60 days
  • Road ambulance up to a maximum of Rs.2000/- per hospitalisation

What's Not Included

  • Injuries or illnesses that are caused due to wars are not covered
  • Venereal or Sexually Transmitted Diseases are not covered
  • Injuries due to accidents encountered while participating in adventure sports
  • Treatment of obesity and cosmetic surgery is not included in the policy
  • Self-inflicted injuries are not included in the coverage benefits under the policy
  • No cover is available for accidents while participating in defence services

  • What are the eligibility criteria for the Proposer under Arogya Sanjeevani Policy, HDFC Ergo?

    Anyone who is aged between 18 years to 65 years can be the Proposer of this plan. The Proposer if aged above 65 years, can purchase the policy for family, but without covering self.

  • Who all can be covered under this policy?

    The policy can cover Self and the following members of the family:

    • Legally wedded Spouse
    • Parents and Parents-in-law
    • Dependent children who are natural or legally adopted and are aged between 3 months and 25 years. A financially independent child will be ineligible for subsequent renewals after 18 years of age. 
  • Is pre-policy check-up cost for this policy covered by the insurer?

    No. The customer has to pay for the pre-policy medical tests at the network hospitals Diagnostic Centers. If the proposal gets accepted, then the insurer will reimburse 50% of the cost on acceptance. In case the proposal is declined, then no reimbursement will be made. 

  • Can I purchase this policy if I am an NRI?

    Yes. Non-Resident Indians can also purchase this policy provided they pay the premium in Indian currency and through Indian Bank Account only. The customer must be in India when purchasing the policy. 

  • Is there any co-payment clause under this policy?

    Yes. 5% co-payment is applicable for all admissible claims under this policy.  

  • What all expenses are covered during hospitalisation?

    The policy covers all the expenses during hospitalisation such as bed charges, blood tests, nursing expenses, and Consultation fees. The policy also covers ICU charges and room rent charges up to a specific limit.

  • Is there any limit on the road ambulance cover?

    Yes. The policyholders can avail ambulance facilities for up to Rs. 2,000 per hospitalisation under this policy.
