Tips to Wade Through Waterlogged Roads With Your Car

Below are some tips with which you can drive safely through waterlogged roads with your car:

1. Gauge Water Level

Keep an eye on the level of water on the road. Driving may become dangerous if the car’s tyres become submerged as the higher level of water can bring in troubles like engine breakdown, accidents and so on. In such scenarios, you should try to take an alternate route, which might be long and time-consuming but it is always better to be safe than sorry.

2. Stay in the Middle

When it rains, the floodwater gets accumulated on the side of the road due to the construction of the roads to channelise the floodwater down the drain. However, when the drains get flooded, it also makes the sides of the road go flooded. Hence, the water level tends to be the lowest in the middle of the road. Also, whenever a heavy vehicle passes through the road, the water gets displaced to the side of the street and its level can rise drastically which can also get your car in trouble. So, always try to drive your car keeping it in the centre lane.

4. Avoid Hydrostatic Lock

If the engine of your car breaks down by getting submerged underwater, then you should not try to start it forcibly. If you try to crank up your car’s engine while being submerged in water, it might fall prey to a hydrostatic lock which can damage it. So, in such cases, you should tow your car to the nearest garage.

5. Don’t Panic

In such situations, getting out of your car, involving in arguments, unnecessary honking, and so on, will not help and can get you into bigger trouble. etc. Hence, you should be focused and ensure that you keep your cool and without getting panic.
