RTO Fines for Using Tinted Glass

What Exactly is Tinted Glass?

A tinted glass is used in the window of the vehicle to get prevention from the harmful rays of the sun. It is important to understand that tinted glass is not pre-installed in the car which is why car owners need to get it installed from elsewhere. With the help of these tinted glasses, the temperature of the car’s interior is lowered and thus making it convenient for people to travel in the car. Moreover, with the installation of tinted glass, one can also enjoy privacy within the car.

RTO Fines for Using Tinted Glass

Wondering why there is a fine on the use of tinted glasses. This is to ensure safety as there are a number of criminal activities that are possible with the installation of tinted glasses. This is the reason why the Indian government has made a mandate to prevent the installation of tinted glasses in the car as well as imposed a fine for the same. Furthermore, to prevent this kind of installation, there are fines that are also imposed for the use of tinted glass. This law was imposed on 19th May, 2012 by the Supreme Court of India.

There is a visibility criterion also attached that one must follow otherwise there will be a certain fine imposed. Listed below are the visibility criteria for the same:

  • The side glasses of the vehicle must have visibility of at least 50%
  • The rear and front glasses should have a visibility of at least 70%

When it comes to the fine imposed for the use of tinted glasses, it is important to note that if this visibility criteria is violated for the first time, then the fine imposed for this is Rs. 100. Many people think that the fine is nominal and thus often violate these rules. However, if you keep violating this rule then the fine only increases each time. The fine imposed when you violate this for the second time is Rs. 300. For the third time, the fine imposed gets doubled, and so on and so forth. Thus, it is very important to not use tinted glasses in your vehicle and avoid paying hefty fines.

Take Away

With the imposition of this law, it has become easier to curb criminal activities as well as ensure road safety. Moreover, the fine imposed for the violation of this rule is a good way to stop the use of tinted glass in vehicles.
