Read this article to find out how you can obtain a temporary registration number for your car and why it is important.

Buying a car could be a dream come true for you. However, you should keep in mind that there are numerous more procedures that must be completed before you may legally drive your car on the road. This also entails registering your vehicle and keeping track of important documents such as your car insurance, PUC certificate, and registration certificate. You'll need to apply for a temporary registration number when you buy a new car. Because the government has made it essential for all cars to be registered in order to lawfully drive on the roads, this is the case. To learn how to apply for a temporary register number, see this article.

How to Obtain a Temporary Registration Number for Your Car?

Why Do You Need A Temporary Registration Number For Your Car?

When a car is recently purchased and the Regional Transport Office has yet to assign it a permanent registration number, a temporary registration number is provided (RTO). This interim number is provisional and valid for one month. It can be used to identify the vehicle until a permanent registration number is issued.

The temporary register number is normally assigned on behalf of the car owner by the car dealership or showroom at the time of purchase. Before the temporary registration number expires, the owner should register the car permanently.

How To Get A Temporary Car Registration Number?

When you buy a car, the showroom assigns it a temporary registration number. Before the car leaves the showroom, make sure you get this number. After that, you must register your vehicle with the RTO on a permanent basis within one month. The temporary registration number should be in the name of the vehicle's owner. Before registering for a permanent registration number, you must first apply for a temporary registration number. To temporarily register your car, follow the steps outlined below -

1. Download Form 20 from the PARIVAHAN website. To apply for a temporary register number, fill out this form.

2. Fill out Form 20 and take it to your nearest RTO office with the other required documentation, then submit it in the zone where you live.

3. To get your temporary register number, you'll need to provide specific documents. As a result, make sure you bring these documents with you.

4. Pay the service tax and fee in accordance with the guidelines.

5. After that, you'll get your provisional registration number.

PARIVAHAN has not yet enabled online services to obtain a temporary registration number. This is why you'll have to complete this process offline at your zone's nearest RTO.

What Are The Documents You Need?

Verifying your documents is a crucial step in obtaining your temporary registration number. This is why, you will need the following documents to obtain a temporary registration number for your car -

1. You must have Form 20, which is essentially an application form with information about your vehicle and yourself.

2. You'll also require Form 21, a sales certificate.

3. You'll also need your proof of auto insurance.

4. To obtain a temporary registration number, you will need a certificate that acts as a confirmation of address, a Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate, and your pan card.

5. You can use Form 60 and 61 if you don't have a pan card.

Take Away

Your car could be your most valuable asset. However, it can be very expensive to maintain. If you want to avoid unexpected and expensive repair bills, make sure you purchase car insurance that provides maximum coverage at a reasonable price. According to the Indian Motor Vehicle Act, car insurance is also obligatory. Hence,  make sure your car is insured and drive carefully.
