A PUC Certificate is one of the documents that is mandatory to carry with you at all times when riding your bike on Indian roads. It is very easy to get and it is your responsibility as a bike owner/rider to make sure that you avail of one. Its purpose is to certify that your bike is not creating emissions above the legally permissible limit. Thus, in order to be an environmentally conscious and law abiding citizen, you must get one. There are different scenarios in which you would be getting a PUC Certificate:

  • New Vehicle: If you have purchased a new vehicle, the manufacturer of your bike will give you a PUC Certificate which would be valid for one year.
  • Old Vehicle: If your initial PUC has expired and you need to renew it, this task would need to be completed by you. You can do so at a licensed PUC Centre.

How To Find RTO Approved PUC Centres?

In order to have your PUC Certificate renewed, you will need to go to a centre approved by your local RTO. To make this task easier, the app Parivahan has been launched.

  • STEP 1: Visit the Parivahan website and navigate to the PUC Section.
  • STEP 2: Click on “PUC Centre List”
  • STEP 3: You will find a list of RTO approved PUC Centres according to your location, after you enter your state and city.

How Is The PUC Test Conducted?

The following is the process involved in the PUC Test, after you have found a suitable RTO approved location:

  • STEP 1: Visit the desired PUC Certification Centre and pay the required fees. It will be approximately Rs. 60 - 100 depending on the location.
  • STEP 2: The PUC Centre will scan the exhaust pipe of your bike and take a reading of the emission levels.
  • STEP 3: You will be issued a certificate that will detail the test readings, the validity of the certificate, etc.
