Star Health Insurance's Diabetes Safe Insurance Policy is a specialised package for people with diabetes, both Type 1 and Type 2. The scheme which is designed to cover diabetes and associated illnesses, covers the costs of routine hospitalisation due to diabetes complications. The policy covers both Type 1 (also known as Juvenile Diabetes) and Type 2 diabetes, among other things. The policy can be purchased as an entity or as a floater.

The Star Health Diabetes Safe Insurance Policy is also available in two versions: Plan A and Plan B. The insured individual must go through a pre-acceptance medical examination under Plan A. The insurance coverage begins as soon as the policy is released. There is no waiting period for any diabetes or diabetes-related complication. Pre-acceptance medical screening is not needed under Plan B. However, there is a 12-month waiting period from the start of the plan.

Criteria for Eligibility

For people with Diabetes , the eligibility requirement for Star Diabetes Safe mediclaim insurance coverage is a minimum of 18 years and a maximum of 65 years.

  • Person and family floater coverage options are available.
  • Plan A has no waiting period, while Plan B has only a 12-month waiting period.
  • Guaranteed Lifetime Renewals are available to the insured under this Star health insurance policy until they reach the age of 65.
  • Renewals are given a 30-day grace period from the policy's expiration date.

    Inclusions:

  • Compensation in the event of the insured person's death as a result of an accident.
  • Amputation-related artificial limb costs up to a certain limit
  • Outpatient costs, such as medical consultations and diagnostic tests, are covered up to certain thresholds.
  • Up to 24 months of dialysis at Rs. 1000 per sitting
  • Hospitalization costs (room, nurse, anaesthetist, surgeon fees, medications, and medicines) incurred as a result of diabetes complications are covered.
  • Hospitalization costs for reasons other than diabetes complications

Exclusions:

  • Aesthetic or cosmetic surgery, as well as erectile dysfunction treatment
  • Drug/alcohol-related diseases, substance misuse, smoking, or tobacco chewing
  • All costs associated with the care of HIV/AIDS and related illnesses
  • Diabetic nephropathy and diabetic retinopathy, all of which can lead to chronic renal disease and a diabetic foot ulcer, are not protected.
  • Convalescence, a state of general debility, a state of exhaustion, a state of nutritional deficiency
  • Dental surgery or treatment is not recommended unless it is absolutely necessary due to an injury or a hospitalisation requirement.

To receive a rebate for your Star health diabetes health insurance policy, you must notify the insurer with a 15-day notice. The amount of premium that is refunded is determined by the policy term and frequency of premium payments.
