This article mentions what the process of a motorcycle tune up entails. It begins by explaining what a motorcycle tune up means and then explains the parts that need to be checked thoroughly as part of the process.

When it comes to the maintenance of your motorcycle, "tune-up" is the term we frequently hear from bike owners. If you’ve recently heard the same and would want to understand what motorcycle tune-up is, then continue reading this article to know about the same.

A motorcycle tune-up refers to a maintenance session for your motorcycle to examine if any parts or fluids need to be replaced. Motorcycle tune-ups can be performed at a garage or at home by the owner if they have the proper tools and skills. In this article, we will go through all of the components that you should inspect while performing a tune-up on your motorcycle.

What You Should Check During Motorcycle Tune-up Session?

A motorbike tune-up is just like a human's full-body medical checkup. Listed below are some of the parts that you should check to ensure that your bike is healthy.

  • Engine Oil and Brake Fluid:

Changing engine oil is the most important task to be done while tuning motorcycles to improve their performance. Throughout your riding period, the engine oil works non-stop, getting thicker over time and lubricating the engine. Therefore, you should change the engine oil and brake fluids, as well as replenish the coolant overflow tank between the low and high notches.

  • Filter Maintenance:

Filters are an important tool to keep the motorbike engine healthy. Therefore, at the time of the tune-up session, you must check the oil filters and air filters. Though both filters are easy to pull out, the care is unique. You can use the same air filters by cleaning them, but you will need to replace the oil filters.

  • Wheels and Tires:

Another important aspect is to inspect the wheels and tires of your bike. If any rubber fractures or damages are found while tuning the bike then replace it immediately. However, if the tyres are in good condition, check the pressure and inflate them if required. Also, check the rims for dents or stones lodged between the tyres in case of wheels.

  • Chain Inspection:

The motorcycle chain is an important component in the functioning of your bike, and you should inspect it while doing a tune-up. During the process, if you find that it is loosening, tighten it with wheel adjusters. Moreover, if there are indications of rust, clean it with a cleaning solution. Thereafter, oil it with suitable lubrication to ensure its improved and seamless performance.

  • Check Brake Pads:

During the motorbike tune-up session, ensure that your brake pads are in good condition. Therefore, remove the calipers and check if the brake pads are worn out or not. If they are well-worn, get them replaced by a mechanic or a dealer. At the time of replacement, make sure your front brake lever has enough pressure and your rear brake pad is not mushy.

A motorbike tune-up will kill two birds with one stone for the bike owners. This means it will not only ensure your safety while driving but will also keep your bike in good condition for a longer period of time. The above-mentioned is the list of the basic motorbike parts. There are many other areas that require maintenance from time to time.
