Read along the Important safe driving precautions for two wheeler owners.

India recorded the highest number of road accidents in the world in 2018 followed by China and US as per the data shared by the Indian Ministry of Road Transport and Highways Transport Research Wing.

The fact specifies the need to immediately draw our attention towards safety measures followed by the driver and riders on the road.

Road safety is something so important that following it religiously can save lives (and ignoring it can take lives too!). Thus, everytime you are on the road you must ensure that you follow the required safety measures for your safety as well as for the safety of other vehicles and pedestrians. And to stay safe on the road, one must not only follow the traffic rules but make the best use of road safety products like an insurance plan as well.

Some important points that you, as a responsible two-wheeler rider, must keep in mind are:

  • Wear a helmet while riding
  • Do not use mobile phone when riding
  • Maintain the required distance from other vehicles on the road
  • Get your two-wheeler serviced regularly
  • Identify blind spots and avoid traveling beside a vehicle.

That is not all. Read below to know more about two-wheeler safety.

1. Ride What You Can Handle

Instead of getting swayed away just by the looks, choose a two-wheeler as per your requirement. Make sure you can handle the two-wheeler well before getting on the road.

2. Be Visible to Others

Wearing reflective bands would help in making yourself visible to other riders on the road. You can go for a bright colored helmet which makes it easier for others to spot you on the road and maintain the required distance.

3. Wear Safety Gear

If you are someone who loves going on long bike rides, then this is one safety measure that you must not neglect. Wearing an elbow guard, jacket, and helmet may be a bit uncomfortable but do not avoid using them as it is always better to be safe than sorry.

4. Prefer Not to Ride in Bad Weather Conditions

The chances of road accidents increase in case of bad weather conditions like heavy rains or strong winds. In such cases, it is advisable to wait for the weather to become normal. And if the ride is unavoidable, then ride very carefully and obey the traffic rules.
Maintain Your Bike Well: Make it a habit to check the condition of your bike before going on a ride. Check its air pressure, brakes, clutch, light, horn, tyre condition, suspension, etc. Good condition of the bike ensures fuel efficiency and offers a safe ride.

6. Follow all Traffic Rules

Traffic rules are meant for the safety of riders as well as pedestrians. Not following the traffic rules could not just get you involved in an accident or a mishap, but can also land you into legal trouble  by penalising you with heavy fines and imprisonment. Following the rules also involve giving indicators well ahead and clearly and not pressing the brakes and taking turns abruptly.

7. Ride Safely at Every Junction

You cannot always predict rightly as when and where a vehicle will come from, no matter how empty the roads may be or what time it is. Hence, slow down at any junction and also never try to overtake on junctions, bridges, school zones, pedestrian crossing and places marked with yellow lines.

Conclusion

To avoid any disruption in your riding experience, taking road safety casually is no option. Taking it casually even if you are pro at riding your two-wheeler is a big NO. So, slow down and relax. And remember what they say-Reaching the destination itself is more important than reaching there on or before time!
