About Tata AIG MediPrime Health Insurance

TATA AIG MediPrime is an indemnity medical insurance plan which covers a range of medical expenses incurred by the policyholder and pays for them. The coverage benefits under the plan include inpatient hospitalisation, domiciliary hospitalisation, pre and post hospitalisation, organ donor expenses, ambulance costs, etc. Besides these, there are additional coverage benefits too which make the plan quite comprehensive in nature.

There are two coverage variants of the plan and the variants have a different sum insured levels and different coverage limits. Sum insured under the first variant ranges from Rs. 2 Lakh to Rs. 4 Lakh and in the second variant the sum insured levels are Rs. 5 Lakh, Rs. 7.5 Lakh and Rs. 10 Lakh. The plan can be taken as an individual plan covering only the proposer or as a family floater plan covering two adults and up to three dependent children.

    I get benefits like 140 day care treatments, pre and post hospitalisation expenses, AYUSH treatments etc. Also, after every four claim-free policy years, free health check-ups would also be covered up to 1% of the sum insured subject to a maximum of Rs. 5,000. This is best.

    ​No doubt that my mediprime health insurance plan offers me the best and the most number of benefits. I am covered under it since a few months now and have not faced any issue even in the buying process and not even until today when I have had made a claim.

  • Good indemnity plan

    Medi prime is a nice indemnity plan.. I have this pan for a sum insured of Rs. 7.5 Lakh so that i get good coverage features. The best thing in this plan is that it covers me for in-patient as well as outpatient dental treatments which not all plans offer. Good indemnity plan!

    TATA AIG MediPrime is a simple health insurance plan which provides an all-round coverage against medical expenses which occur commonly in an emergency. The coverage includes basic hospitalisation and the expenses incurred in such cases as well as outpatient expenses, health check-ups, vaccinations, etc.

    The plan comes in two variants and the sum insured is different in each variant. The sum insured in the first variant ranges from Rs. 2 Lakh to Rs. 4 Lakh while the second variant offers a sum insured levels of Rs. 5 Lakh to Rs. 10 Lakh. You can buy the plan either only for yourself or for your whole family on a floater basis. Coverage starts from 5 years to 65 years. Dependent children aged 91 days to 5 years can be covered if both parents are also being covered. Coverage is available for one year or two years depending on the policyholder’s requirements.

    The major attractions of the plan, in terms of its coverage benefits, include the following –

    • Expenses incurred before and after hospitalisation as well as in the hospital are covered
    • 140 daycare treatments are covered wherein a 24-hour hospitalisation is not required
    • If treatments are taken at home due to specified reasons then such treatments would also be covered under domiciliary treatments
    • In case of an accidental injury, the plan covers the expenses incurred on dental treatments, both on an inpatient as well as outpatient basis
    • AYUSH treatments, which are non-allopathic treatments are covered up to specified limits
    • If the insured is a minor child aged below 12 years and if the child is hospitalised, a daily allowance would be paid for meeting the expenses incurred in accompanying the child to the hospital
    • In case of animal bites, the cost of vaccinations are covered both on an inpatient as well as an outpatient basis
    • In the case of no claims in the policy year, a cumulative bonus of 10% is allowed as an increase in the sum insured without increasing the premium. Increase in the sum insured would be allowed up to 50%
    • After every four claim-free policy years, free health check-ups would also be covered up to 1% of the sum insured subject to a maximum of Rs. 5000

  • Does the plan have any waiting period?

    Yes, there are different types of waiting periods which are applicable under the plan. Firstly, for pre-existing illnesses, there is a waiting period of 48 months. Secondly, for illnesses contracted after the start of the policy, a waiting period of 30 days is applicable. Thirdly, a two year waiting period is applicable for specified illnesses and treatments.

  • What is covered under inpatient treatments?

    Under the scope of inpatient treatments, coverage is available for the expenses incurred on room rent, ICU room rent, fees payable to doctors, surgeons, nurses and anaesthetists, costs of medicine, oxygen, drugs, blood, etc., the expenses incurred on surgeries and treatments and also the cost of prosthetics or devices which are implanted in the body surgically.

  • What is the liability for ambulance costs?

    The plan covers ambulance costs on the actual amount incurred up to a maximum of Rs. 2500.

  • What is the coverage available under dental treatments?

    If the insured is hospitalised due to an accident and dental treatments are required in the course of treating the injuries, the expenses incurred would be covered up to the sum insured. Moreover, there is also coverage for dental expenses incurred on an OPD basis. Coverage is available for up to Rs. 5000 for sum insured up to Rs. 4 Lakh and Rs. 7500 for sum insured of Rs. 5 Lakh and above.

  • When is hospital cash benefit paid?

    If an insured child, aged below 12 years, is hospitalised, the plan pays a daily cash benefit for accompanying the child to the hospital. The amount of benefit is Rs. 300/day if the sum insured is up to Rs. 4 Lakh and Rs. 500/day if the sum insured is Rs. 5 Lakh and above. The benefit is paid for a maximum period of 30 days.
