Since we are living in the times of the coronavirus pandemic, it would be significant for you to take your illness seriously. There are a few early symptoms of coronavirus that you should check yourself for, even if your instinct says it’s not Covid-19. There have been many cases, where people ignored the coronavirus early symptoms, only to end up getting hospitalized and fighting for their life. Do not make the same mistake because the virus is not something to be taken lightly.

Before you proceed to learn about early symptoms of Covid-19, here are a few things to note:

  • Symptoms may vary from person to person.
  • It can take around 2 to 14 days for the coronavirus symptoms to show.
  • Coronavirus symptoms can be mild and appear gradually, according to WHO.
  • One may require hospitalization, typically after the 7th day.

Understanding the Early Symptoms of Coronavirus

Early Coronavirus Symptoms That Should Not Be Ignored

An individual having a Covid-19 infection can experience a vast array of symptoms. The two most common symptoms may be:

  • Dry cough
  • Shortness of breath

Please note that other than the above-mentioned symptoms, one may also have a combination of at least two of the symptoms such as:

  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Repeated shaking with chills
  • Muscle pain
  • Sore throat
  • Headache

As per a research published in the JAMA Network Open, the commonness/frequency of some of the Covid-19 symptoms comes across as:

Coronavirus Symptom Commonness/Frequency
Fatigue 68.3%
Disturbance in smell and taste 64.4%
Dry cough 60.4%
Fever 55.5%
Muscle pain 44.6%
Headache 42.6%
Breathing difficulties 41.1%
Sore throat 31.2%

Let us shed more light on the early Covid-19 symptoms and what all people should take note of if experiencing the same.

1. Fever

Learn that doctors consider a temperature of 100.4°F or higher to be a fever. You may find your chest or back hot to touch if you have coronavirus.

2. Dry cough

There is no mucus in dry cough. If you notice a new cough or find yourself coughing a lot for over an hour, or may experience three or more coughing episodes in a day, you may have coronavirus.

3. Fatigue

When a person experiences fatigue, they feel tired and lack any energy. If you have coronavirus, you may feel weak or drained.

4. Shortness of breath

In general, people describe shortness of breath as suffocation or inability to catch a breath. If you have coronavirus, you may feel tightness in your chest or you may gasp for more air. Keep in mind that shortness of breath takes around 4 to 10 days after you get infected with the coronavirus. Furthermore, shortness of breath may be mild and not last long.

Are There Any Other Coronavirus Symptoms That One Can Notice?

Since the symptoms of the novel coronavirus may differ from person to person, there are also chances that one can experience a few completely different symptoms. Take note that if you have Covid-19 infection, you may also experience the following symptoms:

  • Nausea
  • Blocked nose
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Coughed up mucus and saliva

Make sure you do not ignore any of the Covid-19 symptoms and seek immediate medical attention on experiencing confusion, trouble breathing, blue lips or face, inability to wake up, or constant pain, or pressure, in the chest. Additionally, make sure you practice proper hygiene, social distancing, and follow other desired precautionary measures.
