Learn about all the different steps you can take to prevent your bike from being subject to theft. Two wheelers are more prone to theft than bigger vehicles and thus it is best to do all you can to prevent yours from being stolen.

Theft is perhaps one of your biggest fears as the owner of a bike or two wheeler. Due to the small and easily transportable nature of such vehicles, they are particularly susceptible to theft. While bike insurance can help in the aftermath of a theft by often enabling you to recover the cost, the best course of action is to take whatever steps you can to prevent theft from taking place in the first instance. Let’s read all about some of the steps you can take in order to prevent your bike or two wheeler from being stolen.

How To Prevent Two Wheeler Theft?

Follow these steps to protect your bike or two wheeler from thieves and to reduce the likelihood of it being stolen:

  1. Install a Steering Lock: This is an easy first step to make it more difficult for your bike to be stolen. It adds an extra step for anyone intending to steal your bike as they would have to unlock two locks: the ignition lock and the steering lock.
  2. Multiple External Locks: You should install not one but multiple external locks in addition to the built in locks to add a further layer of protection for your bike, as most people would not have the knowledge to break these.
  3. Anchor your Bike to Something Heavy: Even with multiple locks, it is possible for a bike to be towed away without breaking any of the locks on the parking sight. To prevent this, you must anchor your bike onto something heavy or immovable to prevent it from being easily towed away by thieves.
  4. Good Quality Locks: You must never compromise on the quality of the locks you use. Doing so is compromising on your bike’s safety. A lock should be equipped with an alarm system that can warn you if somebody tries to break it. It should also be made of hardened steel and be approximately 5-8 inches in size.
  5. Good Parking Location: Select a good parking location for your bike or two wheeler. If parked outside, it should be in a well lit or crowded area.
  6. Install an Anti-Theft Security System: A branded anti-theft system for your bike is an absolute must. These would be controlled by a remote and would be able to warn you of any theft taking place by detecting vibrations around your bike.
