Process to Register New Bike

Having a bike of one’s own is the dream of all avid bike enthusiasts. Owing to the convenience and affordability that a bike offers, a bike is often the preferred mode of transportation in India. The primary reason behind this is that a bike helps to easily maneuver through traffic. So, if you too are planning to buy a dream bike of your own, then there are certain things that you need to keep in mind. One such thing is the process to get your bike registered at your nearest Regional Transport Office or RTO. So, let us discuss all the processes to register a new bike in India.

Process to Register New Bike

What is Bike Registration?

A bike registration refers to the process through which you get your bike registered with the Regional Transport Office, thus in the database of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways of India. In fact, it is a mandatory requirement to get your bike registered at your nearest RTO as soon as you have purchased a new bike. A bike registration certificate plays an important role in case you are selling your bike, relocating your bike to a new location, and others.

How to Register A New Bike?

You can either get your bike registered through your dealer or by visiting the nearest RTO. In the first case, the bike dealer will take care of the bike registration process, and in the latter, you need to follow the below-mentioned steps to get your bike registered:

  • You need to visit the nearest RTO to initiate the registration process
  • Next, collect the bike registration form and fill it in with all the essential details
  • Also, submit all the relevant documents such as your driving license, PAN card, and other documents
  • Along with the form and supporting documents, also pay the bike registration fees
  • Then an inspector will be assigned by the RTO who will assess the bike’s model, fuel type, chassis number, and other such details
  • Then, once everything is verified by the RTO, then your bike will get registered, and an RC or registration certificate will be provided to you. The RC will also be sent to your registered address

How to Check the Bike RC?

If you have applied for a bike registration and want to check the status, you can easily do so from the Parivahan website. Here is how you can check the bike registration status:

  • Go to the official website of Parivahan
  • Then, from the ‘online services menu’ dropdown, select ‘vehicle-related services’
  • You also need to select the state name, RTO office name, and other details
  • Next, click on ‘status’ option on the ‘know your application status’ page
  • You need to enter the application number and finally click on the ‘submit’ button to know about the status

It is also important to note that the bike registration certificate expires after a period of time. So, it is important that you get it renewed before its expiry date.

Take Away

Thus, if you are planning to buy a new bike, then make sure that you get your bike registered through the above-mentioned steps. Also, do not forget to buy a bike insurance plan once you have bought a new bike insurance plan.
