New Bike Registration - Process to Register New Bike

Why is it Important to Register Your New bike?

The law states that all vehicles in India are required to get registered at their RTO as per The Motor Vehicles Act. This way the Government. has access to the details of all vehicles which helps in many ways such as tracking a stolen vehicle, and verifying the owner of the vehicle, it also provides tax assessment when necessary.

So overall registration is necessary to maintain a record of ownership of vehicles and it serves to avoid robbery.

Documents Required

It is a simple process to register your vehicle. A checklist of documents is required and then you need to visit the RTO (Regional Transport Office) to get the documents approved.

  • Application Form: The application form or Form 20 is the initial step in the process of Registering your bike.
  • Sales Certificate: Form 21 is the sales certificate that verifies your purchase of the bike and has the details of your bike. This is provided by the dealer.
  • Insurance Documents: Under the law, it is mandatory to get your bike insured with third-party liability cover. Hence form 51 verifies if your bike is insured.
  • PUC certificate: New bikes need to have an updated PUC (Pollution under control) certificate provided by the seller. This is Form 22 which is provided by the dealer.
  • PAN Card/Aadhar Card: An identification document is required to verify the owner.
