No Claim Bonus for Two Wheeler Insurance Policy in India

When an insurance company takes note of your safe riding on the road and not raising any claim during the policy period, it gives you a reward called No Claim Bonus in bike insurance. In bike insurance, you can avail a No Claim Bonus of up to 50% if you do not make any claim for 5 consecutive years. No Claim Bonus is easy to transfer. Which means you can even avail at the time of renewal if you wish to shift to a different insurer.

The best part about incentives like NCB is that they encourage you to drive your vehicle safely by following the traffic rules so that you do not have to make a claim. Another benefit of No Claim Bonus is that it reduces your bike insurance premium considerably. All in all, No Claim Bonus or NCB in bike insurance is a great way to progressively reduce your insurance premium.

How to Claim No Claim Bonus In Bike Insurance?

You can use the No Claim Bonus earned under your standalone own-damage bike insurance policy or a comprehensive bike insurance policy bike insurance policy at the time of its renewal. Consider all the years you have not made any claim under your bike insurance policy and apply the NCB as applicable (refer to the table below for the same) to get a discount. Make sure to check if the insurance provider has included NCB benefit (if applicable) in the bike insurance quotes displayed to you.

How NCB is Calculated in Bike Insurance

No Claim Bonus ranges between 20%-50% for every consecutive year when a claim is not made. Note that No Claim Bonus can only be availed under a standalone own-damage bike insurance policy or comprehensive bike insurance policy, and not under a third-party bike insurance policy. Tabulated below is the No Claim Bonus discount that can be availed with given years to give you a clearer picture.

When Can No Claim Bonus be Terminated?

Even a small claim made by you can nullify your chances to avail the NCB benefit. The insurance provider can nullify your No Claim Bonus in the following situations:

  • If you have made a claim during the policy year, then you will not be eligible to avail a discount on the next year’s bike insurance policy premium.
  • If you fail to renew your bike insurance policy within 90 days from the date of expiry of the policy.

Important Points About No Claim Bonus (NCB)

  • No Claim Bonus is a reward by insurance companies to policyholders for not raising any claim in the last 1 year or 3 years, based on the policy term. No Claim Bonus (NCB) can be claimed only if you renew your two-wheeler insurance policy without any break, at least within 90 days of expiry of the policy.
  • The No Claim Bonus is applicable with the standalone own-damage insurance policy or with a comprehensive insurance policy and not with the third-party insurance policy.
  • The proportion of No Claim Bonus increases every year where 20% bonus is rewarded after the first claim-free year, 25% after the second claim-free year, 35% after the third claim-free year, 45% after the fourth claim-free year and 50% after the fifth claim-free year.
  • No Claim Bonus is accrued to the policyholder and not to the insured vehicle based on which, if after 3 claim-free years you sell your two-wheeler to buy a new two-wheeler, then you can still avail the NCB benefit earned by you in the last 3 years on the first premium for the new two-wheeler vehicle as well.
  • You can also transfer the No Claim Bonus from one two-wheeler vehicle to another two-wheeler vehicle, even if you are switching the insurance company. For this the first insurance company should provide you with an NCB certificate. This can also be claimed when you purchase a two-wheeler insurance online.
  • No Claim Bonus can never be transferred from one individual to another. However, the only exception to this situation can be seen, if the two-wheeler insurance policy is transferred to the legal heir or nominee of a person after the death of the policyholder.
  • It is recommended to not raise a claim for minor damages, which do not require a lot of expense, if you are able to maintain No Claim Bonus on your policy. If you make even a single claim, then the NCB will become null and void and no discount will be given to you on the premium of the next year.
  • You can select an NCB protection add-on cover which will ensure that your NCB stays intact even after making a claim. However, this add-on may vary from insurer to insurer, where some may allow it to work only if you have not made any claims in the last 2 years, some insurers may allow only 1 own-damage claim in a year. In addition to this, NCB benefit is not applicable to a total loss claim.
