Union Govt Holds Meeting With 11 State Health Ministers Regarding Increasing Covid-19 Cases in India

Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan will conduct a crucial meeting to review Covid-19 situations in 11 states and Union Territories that have been reporting a major rise in the coronavirus cases. It must be noted that the virtual meeting will be attended by health ministers Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Delhi, Gujarat, Punjab, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka.

According to the Health Ministry, Maharashtra, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, and Madhya Pradesh have had a high rise in coronavirus cases, accounting for 81.90% of the over 1 lakh infections reported in a day. Out of all 7.8 lakh, the total active cases in the country, 75.88% are from Maharashtra, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Kerala and Punjab. It must be noted that Maharashtra alone accounts for nearly 58.23% of the total active caseload.
Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had reviewed the coronavirus situation and vaccination exercise in India, where 10 states are contributing to more than 91 percent of infections and deaths. As per PMs direction, central teams comprising public health specialists will be sent to Maharashtra, Punjab and Chhattisgarh, where the coronavirus situation is getting worse. He also emphasised that if the five-fold strategy of testing, tracing, treatment, COVID-appropriate behaviour and vaccination is implemented, the spread of novel coronavirus could be curbed.
It must be noted that PM Modi will also be conducting a high-level meeting with all the Chief Ministers and heads of Union Territories by means of video conference on April 8. The meeting would be with regards to coronavirus situation and the ongoing vaccination drive.
The development comes as India witnesses over one lakh new Covid-19 cases in a single day for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic.
