Considering the connectivity they provide with people across the globe, smartphones have gained huge importance in the recent decade. Some are dependent on it to communicate to the world through social media, while others need it as an extension of their workplace. In short, the fact that smartphones are now becoming the extra limb that humans have, cannot be denied. Keeping aside the actual cost of the gadget in one’s hand, it is a piece of great value for its user. And the fear of losing a smartphone can be of great extent for many. To get rid of this nightmare for once and for all, you must go for mobile phone insurance.

Quite a few insurance companies in the Indian market are offering mobile phone insurance with an easy process to get the gadget repaired easily.

The general insurer Go Digit has recently introduced its product of mobile insurance cover. It covers expenses for old and used and new mobile screens with premium rates kept as low as a screen guard would cost. The plan fulfils the requirements of users in particular who want to cover in case of accidental damage to their phones. Coverage can be opted either for 6 months or for 12 months which will be linked to IMEI number and the smartphone will be covered irrespective of the fact where the policyholder is or who uses it.

The company offers cover for over 14 mobile phone brands and nearly 200 mobile phone models comprising top sellers like OnePlus 7 Series, the Google Pixel series, and the Samsung Galaxy S10 series starting from the premium of Rs. 200. The calculation of premium is done on the basis of the invoice value of the phone.

How to purchase a mobile phone insurance?

1. Screen test of the phone:

Download Digit Insurance’s mobile application from Google Play Store/App Store. This is to look for any internal damage on the screen of the smartphone.

2. External video check:

You will be required to shoot and upload a video of the phone which you want to insure. A link will be provided to you for the same on an alternate number. The insurance company will check for external damage if any.

3. Make payment:

After completing the previous steps, you can make payment for the desired plan. You will receive a policy document through e-mail within 48 hours after approval of your screen tests.

Claim Process

If the claim request is approved, you can seek services to repair your phone at any service centre within a week of approval. Once it is done, send a video of your repaired phone and bills to the insurer. After taking the GST invoice of the repaired device from the service centre, the insurer will reimburse the required amount.

Generally, the phone companies also offer a warranty on their selected models. However, the warranty covers typically the manufacturing defects, which includes software bugs, internal damage, etc. Instead, with the phone insurance in hand, you can get coverage for accidental damage, mechanical or electrical breakdown, burglary, fire, etc. Even under the phone screen insurance cover one can get cover for damage due to explosion, lightning, implosion, etc. The claims against damage due to natural calamities, riots and strike are also covered under the phone insurance.

The coverage under the phone insurance can be claimed anywhere. However, before buying the phone insurance do consider the inclusions and exclusions under the plan for a worry-free smartphone experience.
