The penalties for not wearing a helmet while riding a two-wheeler were established at Rs. 100 when the Motor Vehicles Act was first drafted. With this amount in mind, criminals were unconcerned if they were caught, preferring instead to pay the fine and continue breaking the law. When the Motor Vehicles Act was changed in September 2019, the fine was raised to Rs. 1,000. In addition to the price, certain states may revoke or suspend the driver's license, with a three-month jail sentence as a penalty. According to the most current modification to the Section 129 regulation, an approved helmet must also have a thickness of around 20-25 mm and high-quality foam on the interior. The helmet should also have an ISI certification, according to the Bureau of Standards.

You may send an email using E-Challan. The E-Challan services were designed to make the government's job simpler. The traffic officer issues an E challan to everyone who is penalized for not wearing a helmet, and the fee can be paid online or offline. If he wishes to pay the challan charge offline, he must travel to the nearest traffic police station and pay the cost there. He can also pay the fines via the Ministry of Road and Transport's website.

Take Away

Two-wheelers (sometimes known as motorcycles or scooters) are the most common mode of transportation in India. It's a low-cost option that millions of people rely on on a daily basis. However, many two-wheeler riders in India do not wear helmets. As a result, it is not uncommon for Indians to receive traffic penalties for not wearing a helmet. The Indian government has required the usage of protective headgear when riding a motorcycle since the Motor Vehicle Act of 1939. Section 129 of the Motor Vehicle Act of 1988 establishes the requirement that drivers wear helmets.
