In the recent case, Indigo forgot the passengers’ checked-in luggage of entire Delhi to Istanbul flight pertaining to payload restrictions due to heavy winds. The airline delivered the baggage but the travellers had to wait for long.
There may be other situations in other airlines too where passengers’ baggage is not loaded on the flight owing to procedural errors and they may be required to wait for a few days. And to think about the worst-case scenario, their luggage can even be lost.

What all does insurance cover?
A standard travel insurance plan covers some particular basic medical expenses (including emergency medical expenses), personal accident cover, personal liability expenses, emergency medical evacuation, dental treatment, and cash on hospitalisation. Not all the players in the market offer non-medical expenses. These include loss of passport, trip delays, trip curtailment, etc. So, look for comprehensive coverage if you need cover for the same under your plan.

For instance, ICICI Lombard pays only 75% of the expenses in case of permanent loss of hearing in both the ears due to an accident. Similarly, the deductible could be another hidden feature in the fine print.
