Things You Must Do to Protect Your Bike In Rains

You can Follow the below-mentioned tips to keep your bike safe in rains:

1. Periodic Bike Servicing

In monsoon, the roads are slippery with mud and water, these particles can accumulate to affect your bike’s performance adversely. Regularly scheduled maintenance will help you keep your two-wheeler in tip-top shape.

2. Cover Your Bike or Park it Under A Shaded Area

Though a bike is built to withstand outside forces, continued exposure and standing water can lead to rusting. As a precaution, it is always advisable to park your two-wheeler in a shaded area such as a garage or shed or at least cover it with a protective cover.

3. Check Your Tyres

The rainy weather makes the road especially slippery and bumpy and skidding becomes a common hazard in such weather. Such accidents become more likely when the tires are worn out. Make sure to check the tires and replace them if need be. The grooves of the tires should be at least 3mm. You can check this by inserting a coin in one of the grooves and measuring it. Lastly, remember to also check that your tires have adequate air.

4. Check Your Brake

Another aspect to keep a check on to handle slippery and muddy roads are your brakes. In wet conditions, the braking power of the two-wheeler is significantly reduced. Also, the disk/drum of your brake should be regularly cleaned to keep your bike in maximum efficiency to ensure your safety.

5. Lubricate Your Chain

Due to humid weather conditions during monsoon, the chains of a bike are more prone to rust. Regular greasing of levers, hinges and the chain will help your bike keep up its performance.

6. Check and Clean the Air Filter

Like other parts of your bike, the air filter also gets extra filthy in the rain. To prevent the filter from clogging make sure to clean it consistently and try to keep it as dry as possible.

7. Clean your Bike

Other than the chain and air filter, there are also other parts of your bike that can be adversely affected by the rainy conditions. The engine, for example, does not cool as efficiently when it has dust and mud accumulated on its exterior. Hence, be vigilant to always keep your bike as clean as possible, this will also reduce your overall wear and tear.

8. Get Insurance for You and the Bike

Despite taking safety measures you cannot eliminate the chance of a mishap, you can only stay prepared for one. The best way to do this is to purchase an insurance cover that protects you, your two-wheeler and any third party liabilities in case of an accident. Preparing for unforeseen circumstances will also give you peace of mind.
