The Government is ready to conduct a third Covid-19 vaccine dry run on 8 January. The dry run will be conducted in all 718 districts of the country. It is to be noted that the dry run has been planned just before 13 January, the date of self-imposed deadline that the government has set for a novel coronavirus vaccine rollout.
“Till now, there have been two limited exercises. While the first was only in four states, the second was mostly in state capitals. The exercise to be conducted on 8 January will cover the country in every district. Three to four session sites will do a dry run so as to test the possibility of a simultaneous countrywide exercise”, said a senior health official. Dr. Harsh Vardhan is to conduct a meeting with all state ministers at 12:30 pm on Thursday to brief about the exercise.
In the first vaccine dry run, which was held on 28 and 29 December, had Krishna (Andhra Pradesh), Ludhiana and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar (Punjab), Rajkot and Gandhinagar (Gujarat), and Sonitpur and Nalbari (Assam), the seven districts as a part.
After a few changes in CoWIN (Covid Vaccine Intelligence Network), the second countrywide dry run was held in all the state capitals on 2 January. A minimum of three sites was kept as a requirement for the mock drill to be carried out.
The third mock drill to be conducted on 8 January is the largest until date. This mock drill will test the capacity of CoWIN to handle simultaneous use across multiple sites as well as mimic the roll out of coronavirus vaccine in real time.
