Updated On Oct 26, 2020
Edelweiss Group has announced the appointment of Shanai Ghosh as Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Edelweiss General Insurance (EGI). Shanai has been associated with the EGI for two years leading the Strategy, Marketing, and Commercial Business. She has been an important part of establishing the business. Shanai has been holding the position of Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer-Designate in EGI since May 2019. Her appointment has now been officially confirmed after approvals from Board and Regulatory.
Shanai has an experience of more than two decades in Financial Services, Banking, and Insurance. An IIM Bangalore alumnus, Shanai’s career graph depicts complete diversity in the type of roles she managed. These include her assignments in operations, strategy, sales, and marketing. Before joining Edelweiss, she has worked with Reliance Nippon Life Insurance, Citi Bank, AU Small Finance Bank, and Tata AIG Life Insurance.
Edelweiss General Insurance is formed as a platform driven by technology that provides insurance-related services and helps integrate with new or existing digital ecosystems with ease. EGI is also the first to execute the whole SAP suite of insurance in India as well as the first one to host SAP suite and other digital assets on the cloud in South East Asia. The insurer is also leading when it comes to exploring technologies such as Voice-based User Interface, Chatbots, Artificial Intelligence, Robotic Process Automation, and so on in order to simplify the customer experience.
The Executive Director at Edelweiss and Head of the Insurance Business Group, Rujan Panjwani welcomed Shanai and stated, “Shanai has been with the organisation since the inception of our General Insurance business and has showcased exemplary leadership capabilities. She is well entrenched with the nuances of the business and I am confident that she will build another quality business vertical within the Edelweiss Group.”
Sharing insights about her role, Shanai said, “General Insurance is highly commoditised. While product innovation does provide a window of advantage, customer experience is what drives customer stickiness. I believe the Non-Life landscape of the country offers a unique opportunity combining growth and transformational potential. The way technology has transformed consumer journeys across industries in the last few years, we aspire to do the same in Insurance.”
Shanai’s appoint at a senior position in Edelweiss is a perfect example that diversity and meritocracy go along as per the Group’s philosophy. More than 20% of the company’s employees and more than 14% of the senior leadership are females. The company is welcoming for potential women employees and mentor them the best so that they are able to meet professional dreams thereby contributing to the company’s growth. The Group is looking forward to increasing the strength in the upcoming years.
