Aditya Birla Health Insurance to Offer Mental Health Counselling to Policyholders

Aditya Birla Health Insurance, one of the well-known health insurance companies in India, is all set to offer mental health counselling to its policyholders. Policyholders will be able to avail mental health counselling and therapy using the company helpline in total confidentiality.
Mayank Bhatwal, MD & CEO, Aditya Birla Health Insurance informed that during the Covid-19 pandemic, the insurer had got many inquiries from customers regarding mental healthcare assistance. He further stated that at that time the policy did not include counselling, however, under the new policy, in collaboration with Mpower, mental healthcare counselling has been added as a feature in the new version of the Active Health policy.
It must be noted that IRDAI has made it mandatory for health insurance companies to cover mental healthcare. Many insurers are offering mental healthcare as a part of their hospitalization cover where most of the expenses are for consultation, counselling as well as therapy.

For Aditya Birla Health Insurance, the counsellors will address the issue on their own. If required, they will refer the policyholders to mental health experts. As per Mayank Bhatwal, the initiative is a part of the insurer’s promotional and preventive approach to healthcare.
The Aditya Birla Health policy will also focus on chronic issues like asthma, diabetes, blood pressure, and cholesterol.
Mr. Bhatwal also stated that the company is leaving no stone unturned in moving beyond the hospitalization cover to offer daycare treatment as well as counselling for homeotherapy.
