What To Think About When Buying a Used Bike from Another State

Buying A Used Bike Outside Of Your State

If you want to acquire a used bike from another state, there are a few things you should be aware of to make the move more quickly.

Required Documents List

The following is a list of crucial documentation to have on hand when purchasing a secondhand automobile from another state:

  • Ownership Transfer

Certain forms serve as ownership transfer applications. These are the following:
Form 29: This is an application for the owner to transfer the title to you.
Form 30: If a bike is registered in a different state, a transfer of ownership application should be submitted to the competent RTO using this form.
Form 31: In the event of the death of the car's owner, this form is used to transfer ownership.

  • Certificate of No Objection

A no-objection certificate is required to transfer a bike registration from one state to another. The RTO where you want the bike registered will not transfer ownership without the NOC.

  • Original Certificate of Registration

When registering an out-of-state bike, the original RC book/smartcard is necessary.

  • Certificate of Pollution Control

To certify that the pollution levels released by the bike are under the prescribed limits, valid pollution under control certificate is necessary.

  • Document for Bike Insurance

To register with the appropriate RTO, you must have valid motorcycle insurance coverage.

  • PAN Card And  Evidence Of Date Of Birth

Both the buyer's and seller's PAN cards are required, and certain jurisdictions may also demand the buyer's DOB verification when registering the vehicle.

Tips for Buying a Used Bike Outside of Your State

  • When dealing with a private seller from another state, you must exercise caution before finalizing the transaction. Always double-check the legitimacy of the vendor.
  • Obtain a second opinion from a friend or a mechanic whenever possible. It will have a significant impact on your decision.
  • If you're purchasing from another state, do some research on the bike's pricing in that state.
  • Take a test ride on the bike after you're pleased with the paperwork.
  • Check that the chassis and engine numbers in the RC are correct.

Take Away

Check the seller's identification before purchasing a used bike, and buy straight from the owner rather than through an intermediary. When you wish to test the bike, avoid meeting in a secluded spot and instead meet in a crowded area. Also, make sure you take delivery of the bike as soon as you pay for it and register it right away.
