Process to Change Address in Insurance Policy

The following are the steps you need to take in order to change your address in your bike insurance policy.

1. Application

Firstly you would need to make an application to change your address on your certificate of registration and submit the necessary documents alongside. Fill Form 33 and submit it alongside a fee of Rs 20.

2. Documents

Next, you would need to submit Form 33 to the insurance company for the change of address on the insurance documents of your two wheeler. You will also need to submit a proof of address and a copy of your RC (registration certificate) book.

Registration in the New State

When you move to a new city, your bike insurance premium may change. A higher premium is charged in some cities as compared to others. For this important reason it is necessary to get your bike registered in the new state. The following are the steps you need to take in order to do this.

1. Form 27

Fill Form 27 in order to make an application for the change of state.

2. Additional Documents

Submit the following additional documents alongside Form 27:

  • RC book
  • Tax receipts
  • Address proof
  • NOC certificate
  • Bike insurance certificate
  • PUC certificate

You will then be issued with a new registration, with which you can then get your insurance papers updated accordingly. It is important to change your address as soon as possible even though there is a one year window to do so. It is best to do it as early as possible.

Why do I Need to Update the Address?

For these reasons, you must update your address in your insurance papers:

1. Legal Requirement: You are required by law to have accurate information including your address on your insurance papers for your two wheeler.

2. Address Proof: In some instances you can use your policy documents as an address proof and so it is very useful to have it updated.

3. Claim Settlement: The claim settlement process would be disrupted if the information on your policy documents is inaccurate. Therefore to get a smooth claim settlement process, make sure you update your information including your address.
