This can be issued only by those transgenders who have a valid certificate from the National Portal for transgender persons. Under the Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY Plan, transgender policyholders can get a maxiumum coverage of 5 lakhs on medical treatment. As per this health insurance plan for transgenders, a comprehensive health plan is being designed so that all the medical expenses such as sex reassignment surgery get covered. So, with this initiative, transgenders can get quality treatment at any of the AB PM-JAY linked hospitals. Moreover, to further make insurance plans all-inclusive, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority has made it imperative for all insurers to specify premiums will be determined for transgenders. The reason behind this is to ensure transparency while providing insurance plans.
