Delhi: COVID-19 Positivity Rate Falls Below 20%

The national capital, Delhi has finally witnessed a decline in the COVID-19 positivity rate. On Monday, the coronavirus positivity rate lowered to 19.10%, lowest since April 16, 2021 when it stood 19.7%. It must be noted that the COVID-19 positivity rate has remained above 20% since April 17, 2021.
Addressing the COVID-19 situation in the city, Health Minister Satyendra Jain reportedly said, “There is a ray of hope in Delhi as the positivity rate has decreased. Also, the daily numbers are reducing. The number of cases have almost become half as the city recorded around 13,000 daily cases on Sunday as compared to the 28,000 cases, which was the highest number recorded till date. The COVID-19 positivity rate may have decreased, but we still have to stay cautious and prepared.”
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has emphasized that even if the COVID-19 positivity rate has lowered down, Delhi residents cannot afford leniency. He also maintained that lockdown will be extended.
The Health Minister Satyendra Jain highlighted the issue of shortage of vaccines in the city and requested the Centre to replenish the stock as soon as possible.
As per Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, over 1,39,000 people have been vaccinated in the national capital till Monday.
According to the ‘vaccination bulletin’ shared by the Delhi government on Sunday, a total of 43.20 Lakh doses - 13.91 Lakh Covaxin and 29.28 Lakh Covishield have been received till date for healthcare workers, frontline workers as well as people above 45 years.
Delhi is in the fourth week of the lockdown that extends up to May 17, 2021.
