COVID-19: Sputnik V to Be Priced At Rs. 995 in India, First Dose Administered in Hyderabad

Dr. Reddy's has administered the first dose for Sputnik V vaccine for COVID-19 in Hyderabad, as a part of the limited pilot and soft launch in India. The Indian partner of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories said on Friday that the imported doses of Russia’s vaccine will be priced at Rs. 995.40 per dose, but may reduce as and when the local supply begins. The cost will be inclusive of 5% GST.

Dr. Reddy’s said that it has been working with 6 manufacturers in India in order to fulfill the regulatory needs and ensure that the vaccine is supplied timely and smoothly. The company also said that further consignments of imported doses are expected in the upcoming months. In due course, the Indian manufacturing partners will start supplying the Sputnik V vaccine.
After Covaxin (Bharat Biotech) and Covishield (Serum Institute of India), Sputnik V is the third vaccine for COVID-19 to get emergency use approval in India. In the third phase trial of the vaccine, held in Russia, it has been found that the vaccine has a 91.6% efficacy rate.
Amid the ongoing vaccination drive in India, until now around 10.2% of the population has received at least 1 dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 2.9% of the population has received both doses. The launch of Sputnik V could help speed up the vaccination process in India.
