Various state governments of the country provide financial assistance to the poor, needy, financially destitute widow women of their state under the Vidhwa Pension Yojana to live their life well. The financial support given by the state government to the widows and the process of applying under the Vidhwa Pension Yojana varies from state to state.

The Vidhwa Pension Yojana provides assistance to the poor widows to raise their standard of living. Under this yojana, widowed women receive a monthly pension. However, children or other family members of the widowed women are not eligible for the financial benefit provided under this yojana after the widow’s death. 

The Vidhwa Pension Yojana’s main objective is to support widowed women who are financially dependent on the other family members after their husband’s death. Women have to face several financial difficulties after the death of their husband’s. The government launched the Vidhwa Pension Yojana keeping in mind the difficulties faced by the widowed women in the country. 

Through this yojana, the government provides financial assistance to widowed women so that they can earn their living. The widowed women will not have to depend on others to fulfill their needs as they receive financial support under this yojana. This yojana aims to empower widowed women, make them self-reliant and improve their economic condition. 

Eligibility Criteria for Vidhwa Pension Yojana

  • Only widow women below the poverty line are eligible to receive benefits under this yojana.
  • The age of a woman must be between 18 to 60 years.
  • If the widowed woman has remarried after the husband’s death, she will not be eligible to receive benefits under this yojana.
  • If the children of the woman are adults and can maintain her, she will not be eligible to receive benefits under this yojana.

Benefits of the Vidhwa Pension Yojana

Generally, a widowed woman will get a minimum pension of Rs.300 every month in all states. However, this amount varies between Rs.300 to Rs.2,000 per month, depending on the respective state. After attaining 80 years, the beneficiary will get an old-age pension of Rs.500 per month.

The old-age pension amount and age limit varies from state to state. The state government will directly deposit the pension amount in the beneficiary widow’s bank account. 

Vidhwa Pension Yojana Application Process

The application process for this yojana differs from state to state. Generally, a widowed woman can apply to the Vidhwa Pension Yojana by visiting the Municipal Corporation office or Panchayat office and submitting the application for this yojana. A widowed woman can also apply online by filling and submitting the widow pension application on the official website/e-services website of her state.
