Car Maintenance Advice During Lock Down:

Updated On Oct 18, 2023

Staying at home is the safest choice now that a countrywide lockdown has been implemented.

COVID-19's spread has put a halt to its existence. Staying at home is the safest choice now that a countrywide lockdown has been implemented. You're probably exercising or stretching to keep yourself fit and ready for the post-lockdown routine. Similarly, regular maintenance is required for your parked automobile. An extended period of inactivity can harm your car's tires, engine, and fuel tank, among other components. During a lockdown, follow these auto maintenance guidelines to keep your vehicle in good repair, shine, and efficiency.

Car Maintenance Advice During Lock Down:

Tips for Car Maintenance During a Lockdown

Whether you're driving it or it's just sitting in your garage, your automobile has to be maintained. This will extend the life of your vehicle and ensure that it is always ready to go when you need it. To maintain your automobile's engine and other vital components healthy, you must do some simple car inspections. The following are some automobile maintenance suggestions and strategies to maintain your vehicle in good shape:

1. Place Your Vehicle in a Secure Location:

During the lockdown, this is your major objective. Make sure the automobile is parked in a shaded place. If you don't have a designated parking area, though, protect your vehicle with a nice vehicle cover. Your car's paint can be damaged by the sun and bird droppings. During extended periods of parking, a car cover also prevents the accumulation of dried leaves or flowers.

2. Car Battery Maintenance:

When a car is not in use, the charge in the battery depletes. To avoid the battery from being discharged, start your automobile every three days. To ensure that the battery is fully charged, run the engine for at least 10–15 minutes. If you can't start your automobile on a frequent basis, the battery should be unplugged from the negative terminal, according to carmakers. This will guarantee that your car's battery is charged to the point that you won't have to jump-start it when you're ready to go.

3. Handbrake Should Not Be Used:

If you aren't going to use the car for a long time, don't use the parking brake or handbrake because they may become jammed. You can either leave the car in gear or use a wheel stopper like a stone, wooden block, or brick to keep it from moving from its parked position. Leave the car in 'Parking Mode' or P Mode for automatic transmission cars.

4. Maintain the Cleanliness of your Car:

Regularly washing your automobile, whether during the lockdown or not, can prevent dust, bird droppings, dried leaves, bugs, and other contaminants from accumulating. It's also a good idea to clean your automobile during the lockdown. However, cleaning the interior is equally as important as cleaning the exterior. To get rid of any dust or debris, turn on the AC and fan when you start the car on a regular basis. Make that the cabin is free of junk food and leftovers. Bacteria can grow after a lengthy period of storage when there are food particles present.

Take Away

Even a year later, India is still dealing with the coronavirus outbreak. However, we must all do our part to be safe, careful, and follow protocol while assisting people in need in any manner we can. The virus has thrown the public health system a curveball, and we must do everything we can to combat it. During the lockdown, you check out your window to see your car parked like an obedient soldier. Waiting for you to go outside, or, more crucially, becoming your first line of defense in an emergency.
