Numerous girl child programmes have been launched all throughout India with the goal of improving the societal attitude toward girl children and elevating their status in society. These programmes may be roughly divided into two groups - Central Government Programs and State Government Programs. Following are some of the government-funded child plans -

  • Beti Bachao Beti Padhao

A nationwide programme for female children called Beti Bachao Beti Padhao is run by the national government. The main goals of this programme are to enhance the education of young girls nationwide and protect girls from societal problems including gender-based abortions. The primary focus of this programme was districts with low sex ratios, or areas with fewer female than male children, but it was eventually extended to other regions of the nation. This programme does not include a direct monetary distribution and is mostly centred on education to assist in modifying societal attitudes.

  • Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana

A girl kid serves as the principal account holder under the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY), with the parent or legal guardian serving as a joint account holder. Before the age of 10, a female child's SSY account may be started, and contributions are required for 15 years following account establishment.

  • CBSE Udaan Scheme

The Central Board of Secondary Education manages this programme for female students on behalf of the Indian government's Ministry of Human Resource Development. This program's main goal is to boost the number of girls enrolled in top engineering and technical schools across India. The programme involves initiatives to improve the educational experience, with a specific focus on girls who come from economically disadvantaged areas of society.

  • LIC Kanyadan Policy

The LIC Jeevan Lakshya initiative has been updated to put a special emphasis on safeguarding young females. With reasonable charges, this savings and protection plan offers a respectable financial foundation for the future financial security of your female child.

  • Mazi Kanya Bhagyashree Scheme (Government Of Maharashtra)

This is a programme supported by the Maharashtra government that aims to aid girls in BPL households and other underprivileged groups in society. For the first five years after the girl kid is born, the mother is given Rs. 5000 each year. After then, financial assistance in the amount of Rs. 2500 per year is given to the female child till she enrols in the fifth grade. After that, till the girl is enrolled in class 12, the financial assistance is doubled to Rs. 3000 each year. When she becomes 18, she will start receiving Rs. 1 lakh a year for schooling. The girl kid may be eligible for additional payments for additional education.
