Driving license

Driving license is an official document issued by the government of India; it enables an individual to drive their vehicles on Indian roads. The document acts as a certificate, certifying that the vehicle owner is eligible to drive the vehicle without any supervision. Driving license is commonly referred to as DL and specifies that the vehicle owner has undergone the required training and tests to drive the vehicle. The license is issued by the Regional Transport Authority of the state or city you stay in.

How to apply for a driving license online?

• Visit the sarathi website
• Click on sarathi services
• Select driving license
• Fill the form as per the details asked
• Note down the application number
• You will then receive an SMS displaying the status of your application
• Schedule your learning license test
• At the time of the test, carry your documents including age proof, address proof, etc.

How to apply for a driving license offline?

• Avail the required application forms from the RTO Authority in your vicinity
• Fill the form and submit the required documents along with
• Your DL test will be scheduled as per your convenience
• Visit the RTO for the test on the given date and time
• The license will be sent at your registered address on successful clearance of the test

Eligibility criteria to apply for driving license

Eligibility criteria for a driving license depends on the type of vehicle you drive and are applying for.

Vehicles with gear

• You should be at least 18 years of age
• You should be aware of all the traffic rules and regulations
• Should have a valid address and identity proof

Vehicles without gear

• You should be minimum 16 years of age
• You should be aware of all the traffic rules and regulations

Heavy commercial vehicles

• You should have cleared 8th class
• You should be minimum 18-20 years of age
• You should have received training from a government affiliated school or one affiliated by the state government

Documents required to apply for driving license

Applying for a driving license, requires you to submit the below details:

Address proof including voters ID card, LIC policy bond, house agreement, permanent address proof, electricity bill, etc.

Identity proof such as birth certificate, PAN card, SSC certificate, etc.
